We provide patients with common cold and flu-like symptoms the testing and care they need, including rapid testing for strep throat, influenza, and mono.
Strep/Flu/Mono Testing Involves:
- Strep Throat
- Soreness/swelling of lymph nodes
- Cough and congestion
- Breathing difficulties
- Fatigue and weakness
- Chills, fever, and excessive sweating
- Immune disorders
- Flu diagnosis
- Mononucleosis (mono)
What are rapid Strep, Flu and Mono tests?
For rapid strep, mono, and flu testing, swabs are generally taken from the throat, tonsils, nose or mouth. The sample will be tested for streptococcus bacteria, mononucleosis viral activity, or influenza virus A or B. Mono tests can also be performed through blood samples, which can be done quickly in the ER for an accurate, rapid diagnosis. The sooner a case is diagnosed, the sooner treatment can begin. In the case of the flu and mono, especially, prompt treatment will reduce the risk of any related side effects or after-effects creating serious issues.
When are these tests an emergency?
A complex system of organs and body functions are needed to fight infection and viruses. Most cases of strep, flu, and mono do not require emergency or urgent care, but when the condition affects breathing or may involve swelling of the throat, weakness and fatigue, or other serious symptoms, it may be urgent to get tested so that virus or bacteria can be removed from the body as soon as possible.
